CACC Study Abroad
London and Paris: Summer 2025

Experiential learning and life-changing experiences
CACC Study Abroad is a credit-bearing overseas travel program for eligible students. 

The goal of CACC Study Abroad is to provide students with an opportunity to engage with their coursework through a curated overseas experience. You will cultivate critical skills that will not only assist you throughout your collegiate and workforce experience, but also through life.

  • Grow in your cultural empathy and cultural intelligence.
  • Develop important “life skills” such as problem-solving, adaptability, and self-reliance. It can also boost your self-confidence and independence.
  • Build a global network of friends, mentors, and colleagues. These connections can be valuable in your future career and personal life.
  • International travel experience is highly valued by employers. It demonstrates adaptability, cross-cultural communication skills, and a willingness to take on new challenges. It can give your resume an edge in a completive job market.
  • Gain a sense of global citizenship and social responsibility. This can inspire a commitment to global issues and a desire to make a positive difference in the world.
  • Studying abroad often leads to unforgettable experiences and friendships that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Which courses will be offered through CACC study Abroad?

Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS 120)

IDS 120 is a research course that allows students to investigate and research the cultural, sociological, and historical aspects of a topic that aligns with their major or personal interest through the experience of foreign or domestic travel. 

Students will:

1. Complete research on the cultural, sociological, and historical aspects of their study abroad or study locally destination.  

2.  Understand the challenges and responsibilities of international and domestic travel.

3.  Collaboratively investigate and reflect on how international and cultural enrichment can transform their lives. 

Examples of Student Research Topics

1. “Comparing and contrasting the beauty standards in France, England, and the U.S.”

            - Intersects with sociology, art, gender studies, and consumerism 

2. “Effects of low oxygen on inhabitants of high altitudes in Peru”

            - Popular with health science students 

3.  “Reconciling my Jewish heritage through the context of the Israeli/Palestinian War” 

            - 20 short podcast interviews with Jews and Muslims

4.  “Investigating the cultural significance of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilionida)  

      in modern memory in Spain and the United States”

            - Photo-journaling 

5.  Considering the intentionality of urban design and public space in Paris and London 

      to the Atlanta Beltline”

            - Popular with engineering, environmental design, and architectural majors

6.  “Comparing populist and nativist attitudes towards immigrants in England and France to that 

      of the United States”

            - Emphasis on evaluating the bias of international and domestic media outlets

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher while applying for the program and while in the program.

The Trip!

London and Paris – 8 days overseas

Departure: May 23, 2025

Return: May 30, 2025


Day 1: Fly overnight to England
Day 2: London

  •  Meet your Field Director at the airport
  • Take a walking tour of London
  • With your Field Director you will see:
  • The Strand, London's major thoroughfare
  • Trafalgar Square, a bustling central square
  • Leicester Square, a square lined with theaters and other events
  • Covent Garden, a vibrant and charming shopping area
  • Enjoy a fish and chips dinner in London
  • Enjoy time to explore on your own

Day 3: London & Windsor

  • Take a guided tour of London
  • With your expert local director, you will experience:
  •  Big Ben, an iconic London bell at the Palace of Westminster
  • Houses of Parliament, home to England's governing body
  • Piccadilly Circus, a five-way intersection
  • St. Paul’s Cathedral, a domed church which has hosted many royal events
  • Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace (if scheduled)
  • Take a guided learning tour of Windsor Castle, and see State Apartments objects like paintings by Rubens and Holbein
  • St. George’s Chapel, the final resting place of many monarchs such as Henry the VIII and Elizabeth II
    London & Canterbury

Day 4:

  • Take a train to Canterbury
  • Return to London and enjoy time to explore on your own

Day 5: London & Paris

  • Travel by Eurostar train to Paris
  • Take a walking tour of the Latin Quarter, so named because the language was once commonly spoken by the Sorbonne residents that populated the area
  • See Notre-Dame Cathedral, known for its sculptured facade, stained-glass rose windows, and seemingly weightless vaulted ceilings, and see the progress of its restoration following the 2019 fire which damaged much of the building
  • Enjoy a scenic view of Paris as you sail along the iconic Seine River

Day 6: Paris & Versailles

  • Guided learning: Take a guided tour of Paris
  • Place de la Concorde, a major public square
  • The Champs-Élysées boulevard
  • Arc de Triomphe, a monument honoring those who fought for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars
  • Eiffel Tower, built for the 1889 World's Fair and an iconic symbol of Paris
  • Hôtel des Invalides, a grand hospital commissioned by Louis XIV
  • Travel to Versailles where Louis XIV hosted his royal court to reign in their power and prevent their political rise. With your expert local guide you will experience: state apartments of the King and Queen & the lavish hall of mirrors where the treaty of Versailles was signed that ended WWI & meticulously landscaped gardens and dozens of ornate fountains

Day 7: Paris

  • Cultural engagement: Explore art from around the world at the Louvre, home to over 35,000 objects including Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa
  • Independent exploration: Spend the afternoon exploring Paris on your own
  • Take a walking tour of Montmartre. With your Field Director you will see:
  • Place du Tertre, an artistic center of France, and see street artists
  • Sacré-Cœur Basilica, a white-domed basilica that marks the highest point in Paris
  • Enjoy dinner in Montmartre and explore the district has long been a haven for artists

Day 8: Depart for home

What will the “course flow” look like?

  • Early semester overseas experience: Late May – Early June
  • Pre-departure coursework and learning objectives so you know “what’s what” when we’re overseas
  • When we're overseas, you will be in good hands with regional guides, guest instructors, and your CACC instructors as you log your experience through the various site visits and spontaneous learning moments.
  • Sure, it’s a lot to take in while over there, but we’ve built some play time into the itinerary as well...obviously!
  •  Mid-late semester coursework (June – July)
  •  When we return (and catch up on sleep) we will settle into our coursework. This is when we focus on the “study” part of study abroad as coursework will be built around your overseas experience.
